Msgt Mike Carswell
Michael was born and raised in and around Conroe, Texas just north of Houston.   A chance trip to Hobby Airport in Houston got him hooked on flying.  Before long, he was fascinated with all things aeronautical.  At 16, he moved to Maryland and in 1992 graduated high school in Rising Sun, Maryland.  Michael’s eyesight precluded him from flying the machines he delighted in so he did the next best thing to becoming a pilot, he enlisted in the Air Force June of 1992.
After Basic training and Tech school, Michael was stationed at Andrews AFB in Maryland in 1993.  He attained the rank of Senior Airman while stationed there.  In 1997, he was moved to Elemendorf AFB in Anchorage Alaska.  2 years later, he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and met the love of his life, Pam Miller.  In December 1999, Michael reported for duty at the Pentagon.  In June 2000, Michael and Pam were married in Pam’s hometown of Gallup New Mexico.  After a short honeymoon, Pam and Michael settled in Lake Ridge VA, 21 miles away from the Pentagon.
Michael was present for the 9/11 attack and was evacuated uninjured.  The attack and recovery efforts have left long lasting effects on Michael. The Carswells remained stationed at the Pentagon until October of 2004.  Minot AFB was their next stop.  In Minot, Michael achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant and discovered running and several therapies to treat and cope with his Post Traumatic Stress Disorder incurred from the Pentagon attack.  In 2009, Michael achieved the rank of Master Sergeant.  He also holds two associate’s degrees in Electronic Technology and Criminal Justice; he is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Social Psychology.  Pam and Michael have welcomed their 3 children while in Minot.
